January 2019 – We are offering two PhD positions: i) “Advanced Statistical Signal Processing for Next Generation Trajectory Prediction” – Joint supervision UPC (Barcelona) and ISAE-SUPAERO, and ii) “Signal Processing for GNSS Reflectometry” – Joint supervision CNES (French Space Agency) and ISAE-SUPAERO. A new (scientific) adventure is coming. This January 2019 I move to Toulouse (on the other – dark – side of the Pyrenees)!! I will be at the Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (ISAE-SUPAERO), where I’ll join the Signal, Communications, Antennas, Navigation (SCAN) Research Group as an Associate Professor. New city, new university, new people, new students, new research, new life! A new journal article on the “Synchronization Challenges in Deep Space Communications”, published at the IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Magazine.

October 2018 – Invited talk at the Autonomous Systems Seminars, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, IL (USA), Oct. 25th: “A Probabilistic Approach to Localization, Tracking and Navigation”. Two articles will be presented at the 52nd Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (Pacific Grove, CA, USA, October 2018): i) “Linearly Constrained Wiener Filter Estimates For Linear Discrete State-Space Models” and ii) “Distributed Multiple Gaussian Filtering for Multiple Target Localization in WSN”. In October 2018 I will be a Visiting Researcher at Northeastern University, Boston, MA (USA), working together with Prof. Pau Closas on robust Bayesian parametric/nonparametric statistical inference for indoor localisation, tracking and navigation, funded by the COST Action CA15104 (IRACON) through the COST Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) program.
September 2018 – Appointed Associate Editor for Signal Processing! Two articles presented at the ION GNSS+ 2018 (Miami, FL, USA, September 2018): i) “A Technology-agnostic GNSS/INS Real-time Sensor Fusion Platform with UWB Cooperative Distance Measurements for Vehicle Navigation”, and ii) “Bayesian Covariance Estimation for Kalman Filter based Digital Carrier Synchronization”.

January 2018 – Since January ’18 I hold a Senior Researcher position at the Statistical Inference for Communications and Positioning Department, CTTC.
December 2017 – We are going to the Caribbean to present a nice work on “Multiple Sigma-point Kalman Smoothers for High-dimensional State-space Models”, at the special session entitled Advances in Monte Carlo Methods for Optimization and Inference in High-dimensional Systems, IEEE International Workshop on Computational Advances in Multi-Sensor Adaptive Processing (CAMSAP ’17). Finally, our journal article on GNSS ionospheric scintillation mitigation techniques has been accepted for publication at the IEEE Trans. on Aerospace and Electronic Systems: “On the Mitigation of Ionospheric Scintillation in Advanced GNSS Receivers”. This year ends with a new accomplishment, since December 2017 I have been upgraded to Senior Member of the IEEE, and accepted as an Affiliate Member of the Signal Processing Theory and Methods (SPTM) Technical Committee (TC), IEEE Signal Processing Society.
November 2017 – November 20th, I will be giving a talk on “Robust Statistical Inference in Hierarchically Gaussian Dynamic Systems” at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY (USA). November 3rd, I will be giving a talk on “Robust Statistical Inference in Dynamic Complex Systems” at the Signal Processing, Imaging, Reasoning, and Learning (SPIRAL) Seminar Series, Northeastern University, Boston, MA (USA). In November 2017 I will be a Visiting Researcher at Northeastern University, Boston, MA (USA), working together with Prof. Pau Closas on new robust filtering methods for dynamic complex systems.
October 2017 – Best Poster Award at the 6th ESA Intl. Colloquium on Scientific and Fundamental Aspects of GNSS / Galileo, 25-27 October 2017, Valencia, Spain, for our work “Challenges of Using Low-Cost GNSS Receivers for Ionospheric Scintillation Monitoring”. I will be serving as Technical Session Chair at ION GNSS+ 2018, being held September 24-28 in Miami, FL (USA): “GNSS Signal Processing in Degraded Environments”. Our journal article on “Multi-frequency GNSS Robust Carrier Tracking for Ionospheric Scintillation Mitigation” has been published at the Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate. September 2017 – After presenting some preliminary results on multi-frequency scintillation mitigation techniques early September at the European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO), we are going to the ION GNSS+ (Portland, OR) at the end of the month. We’ll be presenting our latest work (3 papers) on robust GNSS tracking, interference detection/mitigation and virtualized GNSS receivers.
August 2017 – This August 2017 two new journal articles on indoor localization have been published at the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, “NLOS Mitigation in Indoor Localization by Marginalized Monte Carlo Gaussian Smoothing”, and the International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, “Received Signal Strength-based Indoor Localization using a Robust Interacting Multiple Model-Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm”.
